Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was oblivious to the fact his phone call with Kanye West was being recorded, a source has alleged.
The Bad Boy Records founder made the call from inside prison as he is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He is awaiting trial on charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.
Combs has vehemently denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty in court. During the phone call, Diddy was heard thanking Kanye for looking after his sons, King and Justin Combs. He also opened up about his experience in the New York jail.
Now, a source has suggested, “Puff didn’t know it was being recorded [on video].” They added that he “thought he was having a friend call him to check on his kids.”

Prison calls are recorded internally, but those records are not generally available to the public. There had been some speculation the recording was AI generated, but the source told the New York Post, “The call was real and not AI.”
During the phone call, Combs could be heard saying, “Tell you real from the front line. This s— is wicked, wicked, wicked, so you be careful. You can’t do nothing for just… I need you out there, you hear me?”
Kanye replied, “Yeah, I hear you, yes sir.” Diddy later said he will be “touching in to tap into your energy or something” and encouraged West to play him songs over the phone while he’s in prison. Combs suggested the songs would give him “some life.”
He added in the recording, which was obtained by the Shade Room, “This s— is f—— sad. I’m Puff Daddy in jail. This s— is f—— sad as a motherf—–. The devil is a liar.” Combs continued, ‘When I get out and I get that f—— freedom, woo. I am not caring about nothing but motherf—— being happy. And I want you to feel that.
The music producer continued, “It’s like being left for dead. And only one person coming to do anything to get you. That’s the level of appreciation that I have for you.”
Combs also thanked West for taking care of his kids, claiming nobody has reached out to them or called them since his arrest. The Flashing Lights hitmaker responded, “I love you so much. It’s like you raised me even when I didn’t know you.”
Diddy then had a warning for West. He told the rapper to “be careful,” adding, “They definitely trying to end us. I’m gonna beat this s— and get next to you.”
Elsewhere in the chat, Combs said he hopes to see Kanye back on stage performing, adding, “I be dreaming of that.” West replied, “Yeah, it’s time for me just to grab the mic and get back on. I love, I love music again.” He added, “It was a time where everything was so frustrating. I can’t explain it.”
It’s unclear when the phone call between Diddy and West took place. The Mirror US has approached Combs’ attorneys and Kanye’s representatives for comment.
