A tragic Air India crash occurred near Ahmedabad Airport, just 30 seconds after takeoff. The Boeing 787-8, flight AI171, was carrying 242 passengers. Only one person survived — a 40-year-old British citizen, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Sadly, 241 people died, including passengers and some on the ground, as the plane crashed into a hostel for medical students.
The pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and co-pilot Clive Kundar, sent a chilling mayday message moments before the crash: “Mayday… no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.” Sabharwal had 8,200 flight hours, while Kundar had 1,100.
This marks the first crash involving a Boeing 787. The cause is under investigation. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
