Demi Moore Speaks Out After Emma Heming’s Decision to Move Husband Bruce Willis to a ‘Second Home’

After Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2022, his wife Emma Heming made the difficult decision to move him into a specialized care home nearby. The choice was made to better meet Bruce’s medical needs and to protect their daughters from the intensity of full-time caregiving.

In an August 2025 interview with Diane Sawyer for the ABC special “Emma and Bruce Willis – The Unexpected Journey,” Emma said, “It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make.” She emphasized that Bruce’s second home is full of love and care, and they continue spending meaningful time together.

Following public backlash after the special aired, Emma addressed the criticism in an Instagram video, highlighting the difference between opinion and experience. Citing her therapist’s advice, she said, “Most don’t have the experience to back it up — and if that’s the case, they don’t get a say.”

Emma’s book The Unexpected Journey includes a chapter titled “Opinion versus Experience,” where she shares insights into the realities of caregiving. She stressed that every family’s situation is unique and that outsiders should not judge.

Bruce’s ex-wife, Demi Moore, publicly supported Emma during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Demi praised Emma’s strength and compassion, calling her efforts “masterful” and acknowledging the heavy burden she carries. “She’s had equal amounts of fear, strength, and courage,” Demi said, and reminded caregivers to also care for themselves.

Social media reacted strongly — some criticized Demi’s involvement, while many applauded the unity and respect between the two women. Supporters noted how rare and beautiful their family dynamic is, praising their mutual love for Bruce.

The ABC special also featured emotional moments from the Willis family, including touching photos shared by Bruce’s daughter Tallulah in June 2025. The images showed Bruce smiling and spending time with loved ones. Fans responded warmly, calling the moments “precious” and “heartwarming.”

Since Bruce’s diagnosis, his daughters — Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah — have shared memories, from birthday celebrations to childhood throwbacks. Through joy and sorrow, the family continues to honor Bruce’s legacy with love, gratitude, and grace.
